THE CURSE AND THE COVENANT: A Study in Daniel Chapter 9 and Jeremiah 29-32. Disobedience to God’s laws caused the curse of exile to be enacted upon the House of Judah… Decades later the prophet Daniel, who had been exiled as a young boy, read the letters that Jeremiah had sent to the elders and captives and found that—not only had their exile been prophesied to last for 70 years—God had revealed details about their restoration “after those days.” After reading what Jeremiah had written… Daniel embarked on a period of prayerful confession and repentance on behalf of his people. He was mightily surprised when the angel Gabriel appeared to explain the timetable for their future return and restoration. He also gave Daniel information about a promised Covenant… through the appearance and ministry of their long-awaited Messiah, the “annointed one” of God.
