About This Book
THE SILK MERCHANT OF SYCHAR. Winner 2021 Caleb Prize. One woman, five husbands and a weary rabbi at the well who knows everything she ever did. The day after they bury her husband Leah Marcellus loses her baby. A widow and childless, what man will want her now? Her father arranges a second marriage – a profitable business arrangement – sealed on Mount Gerazim , the holy mountain where every true follower of Yahweh worships. But Leah’s heart belongs to another. Her passion only brings trouble – jealousy, murder and lies. Leah’s skill at the loom and the secrets of dye – the woad, the murex and madder – brings her renown among the Roman women of wealth. Yet death and betrayal soon steal her security. Leah is determined to protect her family… at any cost. From the olive groves of Samaria to the bloodied sand of a Roman stadium to the exquisite silks brought from the East, The Silk Merchant of Sychar weaves colour into the biblical account of the woman at the well. A place to purchase: Sonshine Bookcentre, Tauranga.

About The Writer
Cindy Williams
CINDY WILLIAMS writes biblical and historical fiction with a sprinkle of faith. Her second book, The Silk Merchant of Sychar, won the 2021 Caleb Award and was a finalist in the 2020 Romance Writers Australia RUBY awards. She is trained in nutrition with a Master’s degree in Public Health, a Graduate Diploma in Communication and a Diploma of Theology. After 20 plus years as a registered dietitian for sports teams, food industry and media, she changed her career and her writing from healthy eating to historical fiction. She loves escaping to exotic places to meet the people, learn the history and try the food. She has chewed cow’s stomach in China, sampled saltbush (eaten by shepherds and their flock for protein and vitamins) at the ancient ruins of Dor, and drunk sweet water from Jacob’s Well in Samaria. She lives in a sunny nook of New Zealand where she has a love-hate relationship with her vegetable garden. Exercise is her stress relief; prayer is her sanity; coffee and croissants are her downfall.
