RODNEY HICKMAN has been a member of NZ Christian Writers for 4 years and started writing poetry after the passing of his wife in 2011. His first book of 83 poems was published in 2013 entitled Poems: Volume 1, and the second volume was published a year later, entitled Through My Eyes. His third volume, The Way I See It, and fourth volume, Poetic Snapshots, were published in 2015. The poems have also been published in overseas newspapers and used as teaching aids for English students in Japan. The poetry is based around Christian beliefs as well as events which have happened to the author. Some are also just made up stories which have a twist of humour.

Poems: Volume One

POEMS: Volume One. Much poetry is birthed out of talent or creative and artistic gifts deep within the writer. Some, as in my case started from deep seated pain. My first poem didn’t start until the passing of my wife Jenny. My daughter-in-law, Bek; told me that this was a way of helping me to grieve. I believe that was true, however when these poems started to flow more profusely, it dawned on me perhaps, just perhaps they could help other people too.

Through My Eyes

THROUGH MY EYES: The Poetry of Rodney Hickman, Volume 2 is the poetic journey of the authors walk covering his search for spirituality in a broken world. Primarily how does one connect with an unseeing God in todays busy life style. Interspersed are poems taken from his own experiences with life and some light hearted views on the world around us. Hopefully the reader will see themselves in some of these poems and will have a smile with some of them as well.

Poetic Snapshots

POETIC SNAPSHOTS: The Poetry of Rod Hickman. Rod, Australian born and bred and his wife Jenny migrated to New Zealand in 1999. When Jenny passed away in 2011, it trigged a writing spree which has continued to this day. Rod currently resides in Auckland and this is the 4th volume of his poems and reflect his thoughts on the bigger and smaller issues of life. Some of them are tinged with sadness while some have a humour touch. Generally though they are designed to reflect on the sanctity of life and the value of enjoying it, regardless of the obstacles thrown in one’s way. ISBN 978-0-473-33476-5.

The Path Less Travelled

THE PATH LESS TRAVELLED is Volume 7 of the poetry collections of Rod Hickman. These poems draw inspiration from life experience and add a spiritual dimension where applicable. In this collection, Rod has also included a variety of poems from other people’s work, featuring Debbie McDermott, Stephen Whitwell, and Janet Fleming. Other books by the author include “From The Lighter Side, Volume 5”: a selection of previous published works which are light-hearted, and “Reflections From The Heart, Volume 6”: poems which have a spiritual connection to everyday events.

Simply Poetic

Twelve Tales For You

TWELVE TALES FOR YOU. In 1999, Rodney moved from Australia to New Zealand, where he currently resides. He has 3 grown children and seven grandchildren. He started writing poetry in 2012, and has since published a number of original poetry books. However, this is his first venture into story telling. Due to the New Zealand lockdown of 2020, requiring citizens to combat the Coronavirus outbreak, this was the opportunity he needed to put pen to paper. The stories have wide-ranging themes (murder/mystery; sci-fi; cowboy adventures; war heroes; science labs; and conspiracy theories).
